Inclusive Green Upskilling: Engaging a Variety of Education Audiences, with a Focus on Teachers

Teachers and Faculty in Traditional

Education Settings

As an educator, you are a crucial source of information for students regarding relevant skills and in-demand career paths. We specifically designed this program to support educators in traditional secondary and post-secondary education settings interested in green upskilling. We understand the importance of empowering you to guide students toward a sustainable future.

Academic Career Counselors

Supporting teachers and students in interpreting labor market information and facilitating professional development are essential roles that academic career counselors play in green upskilling. By organizing student work-based learning experiences and professional development for teachers and faculty, you can provide valuable opportunities for growth and exploration.

Academic and

Operations Administrators

Creating a supportive environment for green upskilling is a vital responsibility for academic and operations administrators. You can contribute by providing incentives for teachers, allocating resources for assessment and research, and facilitating curriculum adaptations aligned with learning objectives and standards. Together, we can foster a culture of sustainability within educational institutions.

Pre-Service Teachers

Pre-service teachers studying to teach at elementary or secondary levels have a critical role in aligning learning with new skills and job demands. Aspiring teachers often need exposure to topics like natural systems, human dynamics, and solutions for balance. Green upskilling is particularly important for future teachers as they prepare students for a society that values people and planet-friendly practices.

Post-Secondary Institutions and Bridging

Opportunities

While most student opportunities for green skills education worldwide occur within traditional institutions, valuable bridging opportunities exist at the post-secondary level. Unions, industry associations, trade organizations, and special education initiatives allow students to acquire in-demand sustainability skills. The ESDI Group, with its extensive experience in climate mitigation and sustainability, supports these organizations in their efforts to make a positive impact.

Working Together

The Green Teach for Opportunity program leverages the expertise of the ESDI Group to empower teachers in channeling students' interests and talents for the greater

good. By collaborating with industry leaders and focusing on performance

objectives, we help teachers create meaningful experiences that make a difference. Join us in shaping a sustainable future through education.

She is passionate about serving God and others. She loves watching movies, eating, and reading books. Chidinma loves learning new skills. She enjoys looking at the stars for inspiration.

Chidinma is passionate about education. She loves watching the smile on her student's faces as they grasp something new. She started teaching children while in Secondary school. This was one of the reasons why she became involved with the Green Teach Project. She and others who worked together want to present students with the opportunity to make their career choice in sustainability.

Learning about sustainability was eye-opening. Working on some drafts, she saw the need for the project. After conducting comprehensive research, she discovered that few training and seminars are organized for students that discuss career paths in sustainability in some parts of Africa and Nigeria. The vision of ESDI Group made her envision getting this project to all countries in Africa. She wants students to learn that apart from the usual career paths, there are other choices available for them.

Chidinma got her School of Leadership Development (SOLD) certificate from the Love Ambassadors Leadership Institute(LALI).

Since 1971, through education, advocacy, and litigation, ECOS has worked for a sustainable Sacramento region. We are for transit and transit-oriented development and against sprawl; for protection of open space, clean air, and water; and now, with climate change, for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon neutrality.

Before ECOS, she was a Community Planner with the U.S. Dept of Transportation on transit and rail capital projects across the country. She was then and am still motivated by the notion that cities are better – more affordable, easier to get around, more social, equitable, economically vibrant, and sustainable -- if they have a good transit network, a network dense enough to allow one to get around without a car. Washington D.C. has such a network, and a number of cities like Los Angeles, Denver, SF-Oakland-SJ, and Seattle, are developing their own.

"The green skills education effort that Julian Keniry has launched is timely. To prepare us for the future, GTO brings together a comprehensive program for teachers, students, and practitioners, to pursue sustainability through nearly every skill, job, and career." She supports the GTO program, with its lofty scope and down-to-earth applications.

Our Story

Since she was in high school, our founder, L. Julian Keniry, has dedicated her life to advocating for sustainability initiatives led by education leaders worldwide. The demand for skilled talent has multiplied since as the world embraces innovation for clean, green economies.

Our story finds its roots in EcoDemia, an eco-forward publication authored by Julian and published by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in 1995. This book sheds light on regenerative higher education initiatives that span diverse sectors and disciplines, serving as a beacon for transformative action.

Next, Julian and her teams supported hundreds of campus ecology initiatives and student leadership workshops across the US and globally. She led technical assistance and large-scale education survey projects on climate and sustainability performance. These helped campus leaders innovate pollution prevention strategies, reduce waste, and achieve substantial cost savings.

Throughout these direct experiences and meaningful engagements with students and staff, she witnessed the transformative potential of green skills in opening doors of opportunity. This inspired her to launch the ESDI Group and Green Teach for Opportunity (GTO).

With an openness to trial and error, a touch of humor, and a dedicated team, Julian now spearheads GTO's green skills initiatives. The goal is that teachers may also see the potential for their students, feel inspired, and take steps to align course content with new industry standards for sustainability and propel further innovations with students.

ESDI Group and GTO leverage our team's over 250 years of collective sustainability experience. Our focus is revealing in-demand skills and viable career pathways, empowering educators and students to future-proof their learning and careers while positively impacting their communities.

We wholeheartedly invite educators to join us in taking a leading role in the green upskilling movement. By collectively bridging the skills gap, we can equip students to meet the global demand for new talent and contribute to an inclusive, just, regenerative future.
